This week we kicked off a new series alled Go For Gold. We did a funny transition video after music that had the lead pastor entering live and carrying a torch into our meeting room.

Funny Transition video

Setlist:

  1. All We Want is You [Darell Evans]: We do an extremely rocked out version of this. I’m beginning to hone my electric guitar skills, even though I haven’t gotten an electric guitar. I’ve got a nice digital pedal that allows me a few (and I mean only a few) sounds that actually make my acoustic sound like an electric. It was fun. Key of E (I played in DADGAD capo 2).
  2. Sing to The King [New Life Worship]: Rocked out. Pretty slamming drum parts. Key of D (I played in DADGAD).
  3. Blessed Be Your Name [Redman]: Put the guitar down and led out front like a rock band frontman. One of our youth led this song along with me and it was AWESOME! Key of A
  4. Rhythm” [Russ Hutto]: Closed the service with the new song I’ve been working on this weekend. It went over very well.

I’m truly blessed to play with a band that has enough members to rotate in and out different people, but yet I never worry about the overall sound. I love those guys and gals!

This week’s recap of songs is posted in collaboration with other worship leaders on the “Sunday Setlists” blog carnival at www.fredmckinnon.com

  1. Nice set! That’s cool when you get to do your own tunes. We have a couple of really good song writers on our team, and we have no problem putting any of them right along side of a Tomlin or Redman tune. Thanks for posting this.

@Rick: thanks for stopping by. I’m just getting back into the discipline of writing more often. My goal is to write a song per week. We’ll see how that goes.

  3. Russ,
Looks good - how did the new song go over this AM/? Would love to hear it!

Great set! :) We also did “Sing To The King” today.

I just started learning guitar myself, & have played Irish music (but not on guitar). Would love to learn DADGAD one of these days when I get the usual tuning & chords down. :)

  5. I’ve always wanted to do ‘All I Want Is You’. Great, great tune.

It’s good to see other songwriters playing their songs in worship. Makes me want to do the same. Thanks.

  6. dude, we did Sing to the King tooo. our people love that song. the place erupts when we sing “Satan is vanquished and Jesus is King!”

did you record your new song this morning? would love to hear it.

@Fred, @Jon: I’ve got it recorded on vid on my Saturday Songwriting post. I’ll check and see if we got video or audio of me actually singing it during service.

@A: Sing to the King is one of my favorites. It’s simple, easy to play and arrange, and the church loves it!

@Christopher: Go for it man!! Just do it!
